South Carolina Director of Insurance Ray Farmer

“The Department of Insurance was created to protect the insurance consumers, public interest, and insurance marketplace by ensuring the solvency of insurers, enforcing and implementing the insurance laws of the state, and regulating the insurance industry in an efficient, courteous, responsive, fair, and equitable manner.”
—The South Carolina Department of Insurance Mission Statement

The South Carolina Department of Insurance helped policyholders recover more than $4 Million in insurance-related payments in the year 2018. These recovered benefits are in addition to the original amounts offered to South Carolina policyholders by insurance companies.1

“The Department’s Office of Consumer Services staff responds to questions and provides assistance to South Carolinians regarding their insurance related concerns. Our dedicated staff works hard every day to regulate the insurance industry and to ensure South Carolinians receive the full protection of the law.”
—Director of Insurance Ray Farmer

The Department’s Office of Consumer Services is responsible for regulating effective customer service for South Carolina policyholders. The Department provides a variety of tools and resources online to assist policyholders with insurance concerns.2 If South Carolina policyholders have been mistreated by their insurance carrier through delay tactics or wrongfully denied claims, then policyholders can file a consumer complaint with the Department.
